How many of us make the time and space to exercise our creativity?

Clarissa Pinkola Estés (author of Women Who Run with Wolves) draws a comparative analogy between creative expression and faeces. Yes, you read correctly. The similarity comes in the regularity of outlet. If you do not give both regular outlet, Estés believes you will get sick.

Each and every one of us has an inner reservoir of creativity which needs an outlet. The object of the exercise is not to produce a masterpiece to be replicated in CDs or hung on the wall.  If that is the outcome, well that would be a bonus.  The focus is on the process. Dabbling in whatever medium you fancy will give your creative muscle that much needed exercise.  And anything can transform into an outlet for expression. The more you do it, the easier and more enjoyable it will become.

“The craft of questions, the craft of stories, the craft of the hands – all these are the making of something, and that something is soul. Anytime we feed soul, it guarantees increase.” from Women Who Run With the Wolves.

So drop the excuses, and the “yes but,…” and allow yourself the freedom to create.

Every day do something that nurtures the creative fire within you.
